mblecote History Society was
formed in 2003 by a group of local enthusiasts who came to realise
that the long history of Amblecote was in danger of being subsumed
within the modern political landscape of ‘Dudley’
Metropolitan Borough.
Dudley based bureaucrats
had briefly proposed that the Amblecote ward within the MBC
should be sub-divided and re-named and - although this change
was successfully resisted - the thought of losing Amblecote
as all but an optional postal address concentrated the minds
of concerned individuals.
The
Society exists to preserve, protect and promote the
history, natural history and heritage of Amblecote.
Its activities
include regular meetings, walks, recording, research and publishing.
A regular meeting
is held at Amblecote Church Hall on the second Wednesday of
the month. Speakers are invited to talk on subjects relevant
to Amblecote, and the results of member’s research is occasionally presented.
The Society publishes
a newsletter Amblecote History.
Notice of meetings and events are published
under the events button on the right.
Membership to the
Society costs £5.00 per year for individuals and £7.00 per year for families. Forms are available
at meetings and from the Secretary via the contacts page.
If you
are interested in the history and heritage of Amblecote then please consider joining us. New members
